Captivating natural landscapes and stunning vistas stretch the length of this popular attraction and tourist destination.

Bondi to Coogee coastal walk is both for tourists and Sydneysiders alike. This “can’t miss” attraction in Sydney remains one of the most sought after trails and maintains its position at the top of many tourists “must see” lists when they visit Australia. Bondi Junction serves as a key transport hub with bus and train services connecting to Bondi Beach, making it a convenient starting point for the walk. Central Station is also a major transit point for visitors travelling from Sydney’s CBD, providing easy access to the coastal attractions. Here’s why the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk is a sight you most definitely want to see when you are in Sydney.

The trail is easily accessible by public transport at either end and at Bronte and Clovelly Beaches, making it a convenient and must-do activity for anyone looking to experience Sydney’s coastal beauty.

Here’s all the info you need to begin the trail:

  1. Distance: The distance to walk the trail from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach is around 6km (3.5 miles.)
  2. Time: The time it takes to walk the trail is around 2 to 3 hours, depending on stops and sightseeing.
  3. Difficulty: This walk is classified as easy to moderate, making it suitable for most ages and fitness levels.
  4. Starting Location: To start this trail, go to Notts Avenue, which is located near the Bondi Icebergs.
  5. Terrain: The walk is paved, but there are some large sets of stairs that you will have to climb.
  6. Burrows Park: Along the way, you can enjoy Burrows Park, a scenic spot with recreational facilities such as football and lawn bowling and a dog off-leash area. Starting and Ending Points

The Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk begins at the iconic Bondi Beach, known for its golden sands and vibrant atmosphere, and concludes at the serene Coogee Beach, nestled in Sydney’s southeastern suburbs. While you can start the walk from either end, most adventurers prefer to begin at Bondi Beach and head south towards Coogee Beach.

The starting point is conveniently located near the famous Bondi Icebergs Club, and the walk wraps up near the bustling Coogee Beach Pavilion, offering plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Tips BEFORE You Start Your Walk

  • Check the weather before you start out. Tides, excessive heat and rain could all hinder your walk.
  • Wear sunscreen. There is basically nothing between you and that beautiful Australian sun, so slap on the SPF and enjoy your day. Don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours. Wearing a hat is always a great choice to help combat the sun as well.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle. The trail offers water stations along the way to fill up your bottles, which is very thoughtful and useful for long walks in the sun.

What You’ll See Along the Way

Bondi Icebergs

This iconic swimming club has been around since 1929 and boasts a museum, food and drink, as well as gorgeous views of the beach and ocean from its outdoor pool.

MacKenzie’s Point

MacKenzie’s Point is a rock outcrop that many flock to see whales between the months of May and October. The Humpback whale migration goes through this area every year.

Gorgeous Beaches

This walk boasts not 1 but 4 beautiful and unique beaches along the way. In order, they are:

  • Tamarama Beach: A small beach with stunning views.
  • Bronte Beach: Home of the Bronte Baths, which features a large park to kick back and rest.
  • Clovelly Beach/Gordon’s Bay: A long, sandy beach where you can see parakeets and parrots lounging in the trees (and most definitely hear them, too!). Gordons Bay is a hidden gem nestled between Clovelly and Coogee, offering exceptional snorkelling and diving experiences. Its untouched beauty, rocky outcrops, and clear waters make it an exclusive location for underwater adventures. The local diving club has established an underwater nature trail here, attracting snorkelers and divers for marine life observation.
  • Coogee Beach: The journey’s end and another local favourite. Make sure to check out the Coogee Pavilion while you are there!
  • Sculpture By The Sea: The world’s largest outdoor, free to the public, yearly sculpture exhibit features 100 sculptures by artists from all over the world. This is a must see and can be seen on the walk from Bondi to Tamarama beaches.

Facilities and Services

Along the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk, you’ll find a range of facilities and services designed to make your journey comfortable and enjoyable. There are numerous toilets, seating areas, and drinking water stations scattered along the trail.

If you need a break or a bite to eat, several cafes, restaurants, and hotels are conveniently located near the beaches. For those walking with their furry friends, there are two designated dog off-leash areas, while the rest of the trail requires dogs to be on-leash.

Parking options, including metered parking and parking lots, are also available near the starting and ending points, ensuring a hassle-free experience.

Where to Park

As with all popular tourist destinations, parking can get tricky if you visit at the height of summer.  You can park on the Bondi Beach front; the cost is high, and the hours are limited. It can take some scouting, but you may be able to find free parking on one of the side streets near the beach. It can be incredibly busy, even early in the morning. Grab $8 AUD for every hour you expect to park and grab a closer spot.

Public Transit

It is highly recommended for you to leave your car at your home or hotel and to take the bus or ride-share to the beach. Public transport can be quite helpful and necessary when you are visiting during peak tourism months. Circular Quay serves as a convenient transport hub for reaching Bondi Beach and other major tourist sites in Sydney’s CBD.

Walking with Kids

The Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk is an excellent choice for families with kids, offering a variety of activities and attractions to keep everyone entertained. The walk is relatively easy and suitable for most fitness levels, though there are short sections with quite a few stairs. Along the way, you’ll find several parks and playgrounds, such as Bronte Park, which features a playground, barbecue areas, and lush green lawns perfect for a family picnic.

The walk also passes by several beautiful beaches, including Bondi Beach, Tamarama Beach, Bronte Beach, Clovelly Beach, and Coogee Beach, providing ample opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and surfing. Additionally, there are numerous cafes and restaurants along the route that offer kid-friendly meals and snacks, making it a fun and enjoyable outing for the whole family.
